PHILA U SPRINT COMPETITION, FIRST PLACE WINNER 2016

brief

One week challenge to design an alarm clock for SDI Technologies within the $10-$29 price range.

Team: Stephanie Webster, Zach Williams, Curran Smith, Carl Stanton, Bob Lawson

what's an alarm clock?

A survey of 18-24 year olds showed one thing in common: your phone = your alarm clock. With that in mind, the team set out to design a base that elevated your phone's ability to serve as an alarm clock.

Model Takeaways

  • Form is bulky
  • Too bottom heavy
  • Phone shelf creates wasted space

Lighten up

After evaluating the concepts, the decision was made to start fresh and create a design that would appeal to a larger audience.

A new take on the everyday alarm clock, incorporating details such as glow lighting, aluminum framing, and soft textiles aimed to lighten up the form as well as your feeling towards waking up.
